TAG honoured 9 Tiatrists - Sabina, Betty Naz, John Claro etc

TAG’s Lifetime Contribution to Tiatr Awards 2011

On the occasion of 140^th Birth Anniversary of Father of Tiatr – Joao Agostinho Fernandes – on 14^th December 2011, Tiatr Academy of Goa (TAG)  honoured  9 veteran tiatr artistes of tiatr stage with the presentation of Lifetime Contribution to Tiatr Awards.
This year's prestigious award recipients are:

John Claro Fernandes (writer & director)

Abdonio Rodrigues (musician /Dummer)

Sabina Fernandes (actress)

Jack Souza Ferrao (writer, director & actor)

Shrirang Narvekar (organizer of tiatrs)

Betty Naz (actress)

Josinho D’Souza (musician Sax etc)

Eddie Mascarenhas (actor, director & singer) and

Kamalakant Chari (stage setting provider).

The Award consists of a shawl, citation, memento and a cash amount of Rs. 20,000/-

Shri. Digambar Kamat, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Goa, was the Chief Guest and the veteran  Tony Sax, a popular tiatr artiste of yester years was the Guest of Honour on the occasion. Awards were given away at the hand of Chief Minister

 Ravindra Bhavan, Pai Tiatrist Hall, Margao 14th Dec. 2011.

President of TAG, Tomazinho Cardozo briefly explained the aim of the Tiatr Academy of Goa i.e Development with mention of its 36 schemes launched for the pourpose. (also see a video separately - see below).



Chief Guest CM Digambar Kamat talked about the song he sang here about 3 years ago making him internationaly famous (Thanks to the Internet/YouTube see link below). 
He also said there were so many objections on naming the present Tiatr Hall after Pai Tiatrist but he said he kept his word by overcoming all such hurdles (More of his speech, pl watch a clip separately- see in the end below).
I must say it again here, that Digambar is the right and capable or deliverable person as the minister for Art and Culture dept. and I have said it even long before he become the Chief Minister.  Besides, credit for formation of TAG and naming the Tiatr Hall, we all know, goes to him.

While thanking TAG, Sabina said one does not get such awards just like that nor one can buy it in shops but one has to earn for it through one's hard work, sacrifices and sincerity.

Anthony San and his toupe staged a musical show ‘Goykaranchem Sukh’ in which popular artistes Felcy, Roma, Clarissa, Socorro de St. Cruz, Aniceto, John D’Silva, Nato, Remy, Joe, Peter de Pedda, Philip de Sanvordem participated.

College ragging gang - Suraj, Chelsi, Joel, Alton & Valencia

It’s a Romeo-Juliet, Laila-Majnu, Heer-Ranjha type of  LOVE STORY

Except,

-      The two lovers from Goa

-      One Christian and the other Hindu Mahar

-     One survives but never marry again

The hero is a loafer or mugger, son of a rich man.

The girl’s Tapott (Slap)  changes his life –  He falls in love with her.

But the boy’s father would not accept it, he wants a girl for his son from a rich and higher society family. The girl did not get approval from her father too.

The two love birds decides to run away but their bike met with an accident killing the boy instantly

Asha’s condition was serious but she survives and dedicate her life to social services.

(supported by Tiatr Academy /TAG). Staged on 10th Nov. 2011

Today’s tiatr opened at the hands of a tiatrist Shri Steve Rod.

Well, I like this tiatr too.
Beautiful stage setting, depicting rich and poor section of the society, their standard of living etc

College life, ragging in the canteen etc also beautifully shown which deserve full marks -watch a clip on ragging - Video 3 below

Roles well played by all.
The interesting part of this tiatr is that there are many non-Christian Tiatrists.

The hero-Heroine themselves are Suraj Hoble and Smital Hoble, what a superb acting!

The girls father was Shyam Hoble. Then there were two more Hobles-Milind and Nikhil,

Besides, the college professor Shivdas Govekar, Gauresh Naik, Vaishalie, Reena Shirodkar etc.

The boy’s father and mother roles also well played by Santan Luis d’Mello (who is one of the regualars at KA Tiatr Competition) and Maria Martin.

Girl’s brother was young Rosario De Souza who also done very well.

well played too.

Comedy handled by com. Jane Rebello and Com. Socoro D’silva.

  There were about 10 songs sung by Camilo Rodrigues, Benny Fernandes, Rosario, Ranika, Valency, Luiza, Francis, Tracey, Evola etc

The last one was was everybody’s favourite 83 year young Minglu de Merces.

  Infact, the audience joined him singing 'MARAMARI'  as can be seen in the Video 1 below.  Damn, my camera battery run down during the song, quickly replaced though..

I remember seeing Minglu evey year at KA Tiatr Competitions. His comedy solos are unique – unusual style and loved by all.

I also see him at Sangodd at Orda, Candolim every year.

Minglu gets a special award from JoeGoaUk  for his lifetime contribution to tiatr stage.

As said, the tiatr was good.

 It was nearly housefull.
