DKA & TAG celebrated Konkani Cinema Day
Dalgado Konknni Akademi (DKA) and Tiatr Academy of Goa (TAG) jointly celebrated ‘Konkani Cinema Day’ on April 24, 2016 in an effort to get due recognition from the Government for the immense contribution of Al Jerry Braganza, hailed as the ‘Father of Konkani Cinema’. Al Jerry not only produced and directed the first Konkani film, ‘Mogacho Aunddo’ under the banner of ETICA but also acted in it in the lead role. 66 years ago, the film was simultaneously released in Mumbai and Mapusa, Goa on April 24, 1950. For the last many years both the academies have been commemorating this day as ‘Konkani Cinema Day’ through various programmes. The function was held at Institute Menezes Braganza Main Hall, Panjim at 4.30 pm.
On this occasion TAG felicitated Molly Fernandes, playback singer of ‘Amchem Noxib’ film and Bonifacio Dias, Konkani film maker, with awards for their life-time contribution to Konkani films. Later, Eddie Fernandes’ Konkani Sci-Fi feature film, 'Hanv Tum, Tum Hanv' was screened. While Michael Lobo, the Calangute MLA was the Chief Guest, Dinesh Bhonsle, the National Film Award winner was the Guest of Honour. Premanand A. Lotlikar and Agostinho Temudo, the Presidents of DKA and TAG both were also present on the dais.
An exhibition of stills from the first Konkani film, ‘Mogacho Aunddo’ was also held.
