Remembering Aleixinho de Candolim

Aleixinho de Candolim

http://www.flickr.com/photos/joegoauktiatr15/8452316610/in/photostream

“Amchea Xetachi Pavnni”

As a part of the Centenary Celebrations, Aleixinho de Candolim Birth Centenary Celebration Committee and Kala Mogi, Candolim in collaboration with Tiatr Academy of Goa staged one of the most popular tiatrs of veteran tiatrist late Aleixinho de Candolim. The tiatr entitled “Amchea Xetachio Pavnni” is directed by Tomazinho Cardozo and staged in Goa as follows:

● 4^th February at 7.30 p.m at St. Theresa’s Open Air Hall, Candolim.

● 5^th February at 7.00 p.m at the Institute Menezes Braganza Hall, near Police Headqusrters, Panjim.

● 6^th February at 7.45 p.m at the Pai Tiatrist Hall, Ravindra Bhavan Margao. Prince Jacob, President of TAG graced the function as the Chief Guest.

In all Aleixinho de Candolim scripted, directed and staged 27 tiatrs. These were staged in Goa as well as in Bombay. Some of his most popular tiatrs are: ‘Mhatarponn’, ‘Goycho Posorkar’, ‘Amcho Pordes’, ‘Mhojo Ghov Basurkar’, ‘To Bavtto Dhormancho’, ‘Ram Ram Baoji’, ‘Sonvsarant Konn Konnacho’, ‘Omtea Kollxear Udok’ and ‘Amchea Xetachi Pavnni’. Most of his tiatrs were based on social issues existing at that time in the Goan society.

“Amchea Xetachi Pavnni” was his last tiatr which was staged soon after the Liberation of Goa. In fact it was staged in 1962. It deals with the dictatorial attitudes of landlords of Goa in the Portuguese era.

“Amchea Xetachi Pavnni” featured award winning artistes of Kala Mogi Candolim. The stage setting is by Timothy Dias, Live music by Luis Cota, Light Effects by Dnanjay Phalkar, Background music by Joy Fernandes, Make-up by Shantaram Pawar and it is directed by Tomazinho Cardozo.

A tribute to Shalini Mardolkar, TAG's condolence meet etc

Shalini Mardolkar died in Bombay on 7^th January 2013

I don't remember seeing Shalini bai live on stage but I heard a lot about her from others including my mother. The only time I saw her was during TAG's awards Ceremony in Dec. 2009 and that's when I tried my best to capture her on my cameras (see pics and videos below).

How one can forget the song 'Dol Mhoje Bai' in 1966 film NIRMONN?
I am sure, most households in Goa sing the lullaby (that sung to young children before going to sleep)
including Goans settled abroad.

Shalini acted more in Gujrathi and Marathi dramas than in Konkani Tiatr (Drama) and yet she left behind some unforgetable memories such as her role in J P Souzalin 'Sat dukhi' where she acted as 'Saibinn' (Our Lady). The role was so pefect that the audience in the end lined up to kiss her (Saibinn)backstage - Watch video where some speakers talk about it.

Condolence Meet was organised by Tiatr Academy of Goa (TAG)

On 14^th Jan, 2013 at Ravindra Bhavan Black Box.

Not many tiatrists attended the Condolence meet- enough publicity given in most dailies in the form of Adverts and news items (This sort of attendence is more or less the same for all such TAG's condolence meets)

http://www.flickr.com/photos/joegoauktiatr15/8383203110/in/photostream/

I spotted Oswy Viegas, Bab Andrew, C D Silva, Cyriaco Dias, Anil-Fatima, Tomazin - Irene,

Wilson-Sharon, Willy (Luiza) and a few others.

If we take off TAG staff, and 1-2 Cameramen, the remaining figure would be less than 20.
Its strange but true.
